You only have to read the instructions....

As Michelle from Denver points out, there is a knack...most people don't read the manufacturers instructions because they're thinking 'what could be so hard about using a baby bottle...?' We've been using Avent bottles for over 13 years (8 children) and thankfully my husband DID read the 'tiny print' instructions.
What Michelle says is right - make sure the teat is fitting snugly, whatever you do DON'T OVERTIGHTEN (otherwise you'll cause a vacuum effect - that's when the bottles leak), there should be a 'nitch' on the white part of the screw top piece, line this up with your baby's nose, you should hear a whistling sound as the milk flows out and is replaced by air. I hope this helps. |
LOVE THESE! Great for breastfed babies!

| Due to some latch issues, my daughter who is exclusively breastfed had to start drinking expressed milk out of bottles at just one week old. We have been using Avent bottles, and she has never once had nipple confusion. The wide neck bottles make them easier to clean. I've never had trouble with them leaking. All the parts are interchangable with other Avent products- it will be easier to transition her to cups because of this. The fact that they are BPA free is great. I'm so glad they came out with these. We are huge Avent fans. Oh, and amazon price is better than in store price! |
Great bottles

We have used the Avent bottles for 6 months now and we are completely satisfied with them. The bottles are well made and easy to clean. The nipples are available in different flow rates from very slow to very fast so you can meet the needs of your baby as he grows. The wide base of the nipple is great compared to most bottle designs and is really helpful if you are using the bottles with a baby that is breast feeding.
Several reviews mention leaks. If you wet the inside of the nipple before you screw it on the bottle (as the instructions state) you will have no problems. In six months I have had a bottle leak maybe 3 or 4 times and simply screwing it back on solved the problem.
I would highly recommend this product and would purchase it again. |

You get two 4oz. bottles and two 8 oz. bottles, a formula container (which is cute but useless at this point) and a bottle brush (also cute but doesn't work for cleaning the breastpump parts), but on the other hand it is good value if you consider that you get the nipples and the bottle rings as well. My baby is two and a half months and I only use the 4 oz. bottles Philips Avent BPA Free Breast Milk Storage Set with Philips Avent Silicone Nipples, 2 Pack. I gave it five stars for value.
Update:
With this set you get the newborn nipples (mentioned above) which are good until you baby can handle the Philips Avent Slow Flow Nipple which are the nipples my baby uses since he was three months old (he start refusing the bottle when the newborn nipples were to slow for him). I will start using the formula container as a regular container (it has a removable divider that makes three separated spaces inside) when my baby starts eating solid food, so the value of this set is worth more than 5 stars! |
We've tried most and returned to these

| We've tried the Playtex drop-ins and Vent-Aire models as well. Out of the three we've returned to the Avent time and time again. The drop-ins (both ring and sleeve) are nice but the nipples are very slow. There's nothing really wrong with them but just not for us. Now the Vent-Aire is a different story. Too many parts, leaks and they don't vent where they're supposed to. Avent on the other hand vent properly, DON'T LEAK and will feed the baby as quickly as humanly possible. This last point sold it for us. Imagine a 3am feeding which would you rather have: a drop-in model that take FOREVER to feed, a leaky bottle that vents improperly or one that will feed your lazy eater in less than 30 minutes (15 in most cases)? It's a win-win situation. You can get you and your baby back to bed faster and completely satisfied. |

Honestly, I have no idea what people mean by "the bottles leak." Seriously, I haven't experienced a single leak at all. In fact, I filled every single one of my Avent BPA Free Bottles and threw them around wondering if someone was tossing them and they were leaking... not a drop. I use the bottles like intended, as a normal person would. I LOVE THESE BOTTLES and they deserve all the credit in the world. We tried a few other bottles before we used our Avent bottles. I was a little reluctant because of the reviews but I have 8 Avent bottles I received through various gifts, so I took them out and used them. Our entire little family loves these bottles. Not only do they NOT LEAK, but they have virtually eliminated our baby's gas problem. No fuzzing, not at all, and he gets no gas. In fact, our son recognizes the nipples of the Avent Bottles and won't have any other nipple but these. The Number 1, slow flow nipple is perfect for our new born, and we have no bottle-to-mouth leakage as our baby gets every single drop. They are pretty bottles and although I was concerned (Medela bottles have a neck that fits most all nipples while Avent's necks are specially difficult to use with any other nipple or cover save for Avent brands), about the wide neck not fitting into other tops and nipples, but we rather spend the money for Avent products because we're so happy. These bottles don't look half as cheap as the Medela, Dr. Brown, or Evenflo bottles (we have them all), and yesterday I went and tossed all my evenflo and dr. brown bottles - I just won't use them.
The design of the Avent bottles are also very stylish and classy. What my husband and I found to be one of the best features, surprisingly, was the "clear" nipples to go with the bottle. When I pump, every single drop of milk is like liquid gold. We want to make sure he finishes every drop of my breastmilk but it's hard to tell without taking the bottle off our baby's mouth. The Avent clear nipples allow us to see that he's drinking every drop before we take the bottle off his mouth (no crying, no fighting, no trying to fit the nipple back into his mouth - which has been a challenge for us since our baby tends to keep his tongue on the roof of his mouth). These little things are things I never thought about before I had my baby. Every baby's different, and for ours, these bottles seem to have been made especially for him.
I can't tell you enough or clearly emphasize how much we love these bottles.

I have no clue why people are saying these bottles leak!
They are obviously not using them right.
These are by far the best bottles offered. My sister used Avent bottles for all four of her children, which is why I decided to go with them. I explained to her that people were saying that the "bottles leak," and told me that they just were not using them right. When helping her take of my niece, I remember how great these bottles were, especially for ladies who are breastfeeding because they mimic the real thing. The bottles never leaked if you put the nipple on correctly. The shape of the bottle, the nipples, and the overall design are really good. The Dr. Browns have too many parts and the nipples are too narrow. Nothing compares to Avent.
Also the Avent Bottle Warmer iQ is amazing and works like a charm. All products work together perfectly. |
Easy way to make them not leak--great product!

| I couldn't believe it when I saw all the reviews about Avent making leaky bottles. My son is 10 months old, and he's done Avent from day one. All I do is insert the nipple, give it a little pull to create a seal, and away we go! I also use the Avent pump and love it. I recently bought the Avent sippy cups and one Avent sports cup, and am looking forward to another year of not-made-in-china bottles/cups. |
